About us

Always looking for inspiration

Patagonian Saxophone is an artistic and cultural movement that aims to generate opportunities for saxophonists who live in Patagonia, as well as for those who are interested in traveling there to share their knowledge and musical proposal in order to nourish families in this vast and isolated region.

The story

In 2013, after several seminars on wind instrument maintenance, Gabriel Pellegrini, saxophone teacher and wind instrument luthier, together with Daniel Vertua, then director of the Romandino Grossi municipal band of the town of Villa Regina, decided to hold the 1st Patagonian Meeting of Saxophonists in agreement with the Municipal School of Arts of said town. Thus, on August 3 and 4, they held this event, with the musician, composer and producer Fernando Lerman as their only guest.

Gabriel Pellegrini always thought that in order to train, he had to travel to Capital Federal to ensure a range of teacher possibilities, so that instead of spending money on his tickets, his stay and paying for a teacher's classes, it would be more valuable to buy the tickets, pay for the stay and pay the fee to a teacher by taking him to his city and thus many people collectively can generate the resources to cover those expenses.

From there and with that premise, Saxofón Patagónico was born as a private non-profit entity with the objective of organizing mainly musical events that contribute to the improvement of artists from the Patagonia region.

During the first three years, the Meeting was held in the same town and from the 4th edition, the need arose to take the event to other towns in the region in order to offer the same opportunities for those who cannot travel. In this way, it was chosen to be held once a year in a different province of the Argentine Patagonia region and projecting that on some occasion it can also be held in Chilean Patagonia.

From this new modality, the Meeting has already been held in almost all provinces except Santa Cruz, which will be from April 30 to May 4, 2025, based in Rio Gallegos.

During the 2020 pandemic, Saxofón Patagónico managed to be internationally recognized by great icons and cultural managers of great importance in the world of saxophone, since it carried out a series of virtual classes for the benefit of musicians in a state of economic vulnerability and hospitals all within the Patagonia region, said project called Virtual Saxophone Education led it to have financial support from a company from the town of Neuquén capital, which provided resources for the use of transmission platforms and this action allowed the organization of the 1st Latin American Mega Saxophone Festival called SER: Saxophonists Meeting in Network, since it would be held virtually. And along with these projects, an animated comic strip was also born about a young saxophonist who travels around the world and time to meet great references of the instrument and tell Adolphe Sax (the inventor of the saxophone) how his invention has evolved and how it has changed people's lives. This comic strip is called Saxofónia: The Adventures of Lauti and the chapters that have been developed can be found on the YouTube channel with the same name. Likewise, each project has its own YouTube channel and social networks to grow year after year and thus be able to reach all homes in an educational and playful way.

All these activities made Saxofón Patagónico be called by other cultural managers, with the idea of organizing saxophone festivals, thus giving rise to the Saxofónico festivals in Punta Alta, province of Buenos Aires and Santo Tomé, province of Santa Fe and the Saxbutterfly Meeting based in Córdoba capital, province of Córdoba.
